I Hsuan Peng
Born in Taiwan, I-Hsuan began her music journey at the age of 6. She’s now a concert pianist and an educator. As a versatile pianist, I-Hsuan has enjoyed performing works ranging from Scarlatti to Schumann to Messiaen. Equally adept as a collaborative pianist, she also enjoys chamber music and is often sought after as accompanist for singers and instrumentalists, and has given a number of recitals both as a soloist and collaborative pianist. She has worked with well-known and active opera singers, including Elouise Waterhouse, Elena Xanthoudakis, Gunda-Marie Bruce; principal clarinet to the Lyon National Opera Orchestra, Jean-Michel Bertelli and principal clarinet to Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra, Gonzalo Esteban. And she has done some piano duet concerts with Japanese pianist Misa Yamamoto. Past performances include as a pianist for Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire in the Crescent Theatre (Birmingham, UK) for an all-Schoenberg programme, as a soloist for Mozart Piano Concerto No.26 K537 in D Major with Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra in Town Hall (Birmingham), Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Alumni Festival in The British International School of Kuala Lumpur, and Venezuelan Opera Gala with Soprano Maria Elena Vargas in Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre.
After graduating from the University of Taipei under the tutelage of Professor Pei-Chun Liao, I-Hsuan pursued her music education at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Professors Julian Jacobson and Philip Martin. She has completed her Master’s Degree in Music with distinction and Conservatoire’s flagship Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in professional instrumental performance.
I-Hsuan has also participated in many competitions, and successes include first prize in Taiwan Music Competition in Hsinchu (2009), top awards in the National Student Music Competition in Taiwan, as a finalist in Donohoe Gold Medal from UK(2017), Religion winner of Osaka International Music Competition in Kuala Lumpur(2018).
She has also participated in various masterclasses held by Ning An, Vitaly Berzon, Wei-Yi Yang, Jian Li, Philip Fisher, Mikhail Kazakevich, Martin Jones, Colin Stone, Orit Wolf, Christian Blackshaw, Roustem Saitkouvslav and Peter Donohoe.
I-Hsuan is now settled down in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and is one of faculty in Bentley Music Academy and Malaysia Institute of Arts.
