Florence Chong

Florence Chong, a Malaysian Coloratura Soprano, began her musical journey as a pianist. She received a full scholarship to pursue the Diploma in Music course at SEGI College Subang Jaya, Malaysia, and graduated with distinction in 2011. In 2013, she was accepted into the prestigious BA in Vocal Studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin. She was awarded this degree, which is validated by Trinity College Dublin, with first-class honours in 2017. Florence was then awarded a Master’s Degree in Solo Singing with cum laude, specializing in Opera Performance, by the Conservatorium Maastricht, the Netherlands, in 2020, where she studied with Yvonne Schiffelers and Abigail Richards.

 

Florence has sung in numerous opera productions across Ireland, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Italy, Bosnia, and Malaysia. Her repertoire includes notable roles such as Frasquita in Bizet’s Carmen, Queen of the Night in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone, Suor Genovieffa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and more. Besides her opera engagements, Florence has left a notable impression on international audiences as a captivating recital artist. She was a featured soloist at several prominent music festivals including the Klang Music Festival in Malaysia, Festival de la Musique in France, Festival Via Musica, and Grachten Festival in the Netherlands, among others. Florence was also one of the featured singers on the CD album “A Musical Portrait” by Hans Leenders, where she recorded two compositions by Hans in 2022.

 

In addition to her performing career, Florence is highly sought after as a voice teacher in Maastricht, the Netherlands, where she currently resides. She owns her private teaching studio and is also a voice instructor at a music academy in Maastricht.

 

In recent years, Florence has been traveling extensively, maintaining an active performance schedule spanning between Malaysia and Europe.
