Brian Larson

Brian completed B.Mus, High Distinction at McGill University, as a student of Mauricio Fuks and Tom Williams. He had additional studies with Gwen Thompson, Vladimir Landsman, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, & Taras Gabora. Since 1989 has performed in over 3500 concerts: 1st violinist with Vancouver Symphony & Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra; solo recital tours; guest concertmaster – working with conductors and artists ranging from C. Dutoit, L. Maazel, Y.P. Saraste, G. Rozhdestvensky, K. Akiyama, S. Commissiona, A. Litton, V. Spivakov, M. Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, Pinchas Zukerman, Gil Shaham, Steven Isserlis, Isaac Stern, Nigel Kennedy, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and others. In other fields, he has been involved in studio recordings or concerts with major pop artists, including:

(Canada) Nickelback, Bryan Adams, Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Sarah McClaughlin ; (USA/EU) Smokey Robinson, YES, The Cranberries, Moody Blues, Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, ; (Hong Kong) Eason Chan. He is also an avid string quartet arranger and electric violinist.

Brian is a frequent chamber musician, playing string trios, quartets and piano trios, as well as jazz combinations. He is invited as a teacher or adjudicator at festivals throughout Asia, with thousands of hours of pedagogy experience and a very clear system for building young players, as well as coaching other teachers. In 2015 July-August, he was invited as Violin Coach for Asian Youth Orchestra’s 25th anniversary year, in Hong Kong.
